I'm Sierra!

My earliest memory of being a human being was when I was watching the film Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron at the ripe old age of four.  My older sister was at school and, as the time passed as slow as molassess through the streets of Boston in 1919 while I waited for her to return home, I hit the start movie button on the film menu.  The first cognative thought I ever had was "I bet I miss a lot of the movie when I blink.  I'm not going to blink this time so I don't miss anything."  Was I successful?  I do not know, I was four.  For what it's worth, I believed so much in my genius that went on to watch Monsters Inc. without blinking as well.  What I do know for certain is that animated films have changed my life, and while I may not have known it back then, my path was always to be an animator when I grew up.

My Story

I'm a character and effects animator from BYU!  Before I discovered my passion for animating, I wanted to professionally drive motercycles and own a cat hotel when I was a small child.  Thankfully, I came to my senses and picked a different, incredibly easy to break into, achievable dream that involved less road rash and cat hair: animation.

I owe my passion for art to my grandpa, Wano Herlevi.  My grandpa comes from a family of Finnish coal miners who settled down in the mountains of central Utah.  My grandpa is an avid oil painter, and when I asked him to teach me to draw when my family moved into his basement when I was seven, he went out to find a How To Draw: Finding Nemo book for me and taught me to draw cartoon characters.  The rest is history!

In my free time, I draw silly comics about my daily life as a dog owner, a student, and a film conesuier.  You can find more of them on my instagram!
